February DT Makes - Karen

Hello, hello

I can't believe that yet another month has flown by!

My February DT kit comprised two Simple Stories ranges - Live in Color and Pumpkin Spice.

I was so inspired by the Live in Colour range that I made 4 layouts in very quick succession.

I have used the Pumpkin Spice to make a patchwork style layout and have another 'on the go' but haven't gotten around to finishing it - hoping to find the time tonight

February Virtual Crop - Class 3 with Mel

Welcome to the final class of the day. I hope you have enjoyed the classes by Karen and Ann earlier in the day.

Remember we would love to see your creations over on the ATDML # Create Facebook page!

My class is, like Ann's, uses papers from mixed manufacturers and ranges. I created two layouts using the kit and as always Instructions can be downloaded HERE.

Thanks again for joining us for another Virtual crop. The next one will take place on Saturday March 19th - look out for kits going on sale at the beginning of March!

February Virtual Crop Class 2 with Ann

Hello lovely Scrapbookers, my turn next with your second virtual crop class this month.

My layout for today uses the mixture of green and blue papers that were included in the class kit. Don't worry if you don't have the kit as this page is also a great way of using up left over 12" strips of paper that you may have, so you'll be good to go and it's a nice, quick page to pull together.

Instructions can be found HERE, download for free and off you go!.

Mel is up next at 2pm with your third class of the day. Happy scrapping!!

February 2016 Virtual Crop - Class 1 with Karen

Hello, hello lovely scrappers and welcome to February's virtual crop.

I am kicking off the proceedings today with a two page class using the scrumptious #Happy from Websters Pages and I certainly was #Happy when I got to work with it.

Both my pages use standard 6 x 4 photographs, one has a landscape and the other has a portrait.

I utalised the two chevron striped papers on the first page and also used one of the vellum cut-a-parts for my journaling block.

On my second page I cut out some of the chevrons and backed them with vellum to give a little bit of dimension to the page.

You can download the instructions for my class here.

Pop back at 12 noon to see what Ann has done x

February 2016 Virtual Crop Challenge

Good morning virtual croppers, it's time for your February virtual crop challenge ahead of today's classes from your ATDML design team.

As introduced last month we will supply a piece of music trivia based on this day in music history and then a scrapbook challenge based on it for you to interpret as you will. It's all just a bit of fun which we hope you enjoy!

CHALLENGE: As this was Abba's 7th number 1 single your challenge is to use 7 different pattern papers on your challenge layout.

See you back here at 10am with your first of three virtual crop classes for the day.

Hearts with Simple Stories

Ok...not your quite so usual Valentines page, but I got sent a mix of Simple Stories Summer papers to play with so it spurred me on to finish my holiday pages.  I've seen lots of heart designs on papers and pages, so wanted to have a go.  I created a heart template by folding some paper in half and creating a heart shape (use 12" or A3 - I hacked mine a bit with A4 so I had to free hand draw the bottom bit of my heart).  I then used the template and drew the heart on the back of my cardstock and went about punching holes around the edge with a pin.  I find if you use a ruler and then move it down about a cm at a time you can nice evenly spaced and level holes for your thread.  After that I used my thread and just randomly created the pattern across the page.

After all the sewing I then layered up some Summer Vibe papers and bits and pieces that went with the ice-cream theme, mounting quite a few of them on foam dots.

Wishing you all a lovely Valentines day.

Not Getting the Whole Picture (or photo)

I thought I was ultra organised for my crop last Saturday.  I had all my photos on a memory stick to print out on the one hour service at Sainsburys whilst I indulged in a little breakfast and some essential shopping.  But no - it appears that Sainsburys have stopped printing photos.  Nevermind I thought I will go to Boots and use their machine, no again, it was out of order.

So what to do?  Buy a cheap note pad and cut the pages to the size of your photos.

I had a whole day scrapping without a single photo - five layouts made, four using Simple Stories Pumpkin Spice and Simple Stories Life in Color and one using Kaisercraft Provincial.

I think I got more done that I would have if I had to find the perfect photo for the papers.

Have you ever scrapped a page without the photo to put on it?

February Children's Hour Tag

Hello, this month's tag pays homage to St Valentine's Day with hearts and flowers...

I used the February Children's Hour Papers, February Collective...

And February montage...

They can be found in the Trip Down Memory Lane shop here.
You will also need...
  • An 8"x4" tag
  • red card or paper
  • pink mini bobble trim
  • 7mm black satin ribbon
  • and a couple of gems
To start with use some of the February Montage paper to cover the lower part (about 2") of the tag and cover the upper part with red card or paper...

Cut the short pink patterned strip from the collective paper and fix with foam pads. Add a line of bobble trim or lace...
Cut the mother and child from the montage paper and attach as shown...
Cut out a postage stamp and the girl holding the rose and add using foam pads...
Glue strips of satin ribbon round the edge of the red card...

Cut out more roses and layer them up on the tag...

Punch two hearts from the montage paper and the black strip from the collective paper and add to the top of the tag...I crumpled the black strip a little then folded it to turn it into a curve instead of a straight line attached with foam pads...I also added a couple of gems to the hearts...

Finally add another piece of black ribbon through the hole in the tag for the finished tag...

The great news is you'll still have enough papers left over to make a couple of Valentine Cards too.

Happy St Valentine's Day and I'll see you again in March.
Happy crafting.

Pumpkin Spice - Stitched Together With Love

Mel and Jill sent me some lovely gingham papers, from the Simple Stories, Pumpkin Spice range,  in my February DT kit.

Apple Cider Gingham

Pumpkin Spice Gingham

As soon as I saw them I thought of patchwork quilts (something I intend to try this year).  I cut 8 brown and 8 yellow squares measuring 2 3/4 in.  I then drew a pencil square on my white card 1/2 in in from each edge, alternated my gingham patches inside the drawn square and outlined each one with faux stitching.

Next I used this paper to cut out 12 pumpkins and used pop dots to attach these to the gingham patches - leaving the four in the centre blank.

Pumpkin Everything.

I used my Silhouette to design and cut a photo mat, using the sketch pen option for the writing and hearts and finally added my photo.

Carta Bella - Moments and Memories

Carta Bella's Moments and Memories is a really nice collection pack centred around family.  The papers are really thick and have a slightly textured feel to them which is lovely to work with.  I started my page with some stamping in different coloured inks, and then cut out some circles - going for a design on each side of my page.  I added some doilies and then cut out some of the frames from one of the papers.  I distressed and inked the edges, and started layering up using some foam dots.  I also used some of the Tando mini branches - I just covered the chipboard with distress ink - I used distress stain, and did it a little randomly so you get patches of brown and green on the leaves.  My final step was to add some splatters of ink.

You can find the kit here
